Spotlight on the Terra Timing Team
Meet Ty —
Ty Boddeker has been a Terra Timer for over 2 year. He is experienced, stays cool under pressure, and has a great attitude! If you spot the timing team, he's the tall one!
Q; What is your favorite part of the job?
A: Seeing all the equipment setup and working as planned.
Q: What is the most interesting memory you have of timing a race?
A: Watching a very tall van driving through the arch and taking it away with it.
Q: What is your advice for runners at a Terra timed race?
A: Go all out and try to get that new personal best or achieve whatever goal you set that day.
Q: What is your advice for race directors?
A: Coordinate with the timers on setup and make sure any same day signups are provided.
Q: Would you rather time a really hot race or a really cold race?
A: I’ll take hot. The fingers stop working well when it gets cold. Connecting cables and typing is a challenge.
Q: What is the most difficult piece of equipment to set up?
A: The nuances of the timing software.
Q: What is your favorite ice cream?
A: I like chocolate chip ice cream best.
Meet Justin —
Justin Smith has been on the Terra Timing Team a little over a year. He just graduated from Walker Valley High School and is starting at UTC this fall. Justin has learned the in's and out's of the timing process throughout the last year and is a positive team player!
Q: What is your favorite part of the job?
A: I love having the ability to see all the different people and charities that take time to raise money and race. It’s inspiring to witness the community come together like that.
Q: Would you rather time a really hot race or a really cold race?
A: Even though cold races are better for the runners, I’d have to go with a really hot race—cold weather makes it tough to set up equipment when my hands are frozen!
Q: What do you do when you aren’t timing races?
A: I love reading Stephen King novels and watching anime.
Q: What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?
A: Mint chocolate chip!
