RMHC Run4Kids

With the advent of September, Fall race season has officially arrived. For us at Terra Running Company that means you we will be out and about timing races for awesome non-profits and businesses in the area (as well as putting on some of our own). One that we look forward to every year is the Ronald McDonald House’s Run4Kids! We chatted with Izabelle Bradley, RMHC’s Director of Communications and Marketing, to learn more. ___________________________________________________________________

Can you introduce yourself and your organization to our readers?

We are Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Chattanooga, a locally funded and operated nonprofit organization that provides a "home away from home" for families of critically ill or injured children receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. Our services include lodging, meals, and continual support so that families can stay close to their child during a medical crisis, without an added financial burden

What about the 5K? What was the inspiration behind this event and how does it help you all accomplish your mission?

Six years ago, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Chattanooga proudly adopted the Karen Lawrence Run, a beloved community event that had already been making an impact for decades. For 40 years, the Lawrence family hosted the race in memory of Karen Lawrence, who bravely battled acute lymphocytic leukemia as a child. “Before she lost her battle, Karen asked us to keep helping sick kids,” said Phyllis Lawrence. “We've honored that for 40 years by raising funds and volunteering. We're excited to continue her legacy with the Run4Kids in Memory of Karen.”

The mascot race from last year’s event

Proceeds from Run4Kids directly support the full circle of care we provide through our 28-room Ronald McDonald House, the Ronald McDonald Family Room inside Erlanger Children’s Hospital, and our House to Home program in Cleveland, TN. Each of these spaces plays a vital role in keeping families close during a child’s medical crisis—whether it’s a comforting place to sleep, a quiet moment of rest near the ICU, or aftercare support once they’ve returned home.

How long have you all been putting this event on?

This is our 6th year hosting the event! We’re incredibly proud of its legacy and how it’s grown over the years into a celebration with something for everyone to enjoy.

Can you give us some details—where and when is the race? Is there anything unique about it that runners should know?

The 2025 Run4Kids will take place on Saturday, September 20 at the Tennessee Riverwalk – Hubert Fry Center in Chattanooga, TN. Runners and walkers can choose between a timed 5K, a 1-mile walk, or a virtual participation option. Kicking off the morning’s festivities will be a mascot race featuring some of Chattanooga’s favorite costumed characters!

What makes this year’s race stand out is the addition of the Family Fun Festival following the run. Attendees can enjoy face painting, food trucks, arts & crafts, games, and more. We also host a Team Spirit & Costume Contest each year, encouraging groups to dress up in memory or honor of a child or loved one. Runners can sign up on the rmhchattanooga.com website or at terrarunning.com!
