City Fields Fall Fest 5k

First things first! Can you introduce yourself and your organization to our readers?

My name is Anna Barbosa and I’m the Community Engagement AmeriCorps VISTA at City Fields! We are a community development corporation (CDC) focused on holistic neighborhood revitalization in Cleveland, Tennessee’s most overlooked neighborhoods. We address social, structural, and economic issues in two low-moderate income communities in East Cleveland: the Blythe Oldfield and College Hill Neighborhoods.

What about the 5k? What was the inspiration behind this event and how does it help you all accomplish your mission?

The inspiration behind our 5K is a desire to bringing to see our neighborhoods become more intertwined with Cleveland at large, and challenge perceptions about the “other side of the tracks”. We want to show all of Cleveland that Blythe Oldfield is a place that our neighbors take pride in with vibrant spaces throughout their neighborhood.

How long have you all been putting this event on?

This is our second year hosting our City Fields Fall Fest 5K and Fun Run. In the past we tried doing a gala as a fundraising event, but quickly learned that that’s not our style. The 5K is more authentic to who we, and our neighbors, are.

Can you give us some details -- where and when is the race? Is there anything unique about it that runners should know?

The race will be on Saturday, September 27th, 2025. Registration opens at 8 AM and the actual race starts at 9 AM. It’ll begin in front of the old Blythe Avenue School - 1075 Blythe Avenue! You can follow our Facebook and Instagram page for more details as the race approaches @cityfieldtn. You can sign up ahead of time on our website at www.cityfieldscdc.com/fall-fest-5k-2025

Beyond the event, how can people get involved or connected with your organization?

There are plenty of volunteer opportunities at City Fields, many of which focus on cultivating often overlooked places and communities. For example, you can volunteer with our Workforce Development program, donate meals to our Foster Care Youth Initiative, join us for a Wednesday night meal in the park with the Blythe Oldfield Community Association, or help out during garden nights in the College Hill or Blythe Oldfield community gardens.

Is there anything else you would like to share?
