Fall 2026 Race Highlight: Funky Monkey Glow Run

Q: First things first! Can you introduce yourself and your organization to our readers?
A: Cindy Horton and Sarah Harrell. We direct and coordinate all of our races here at Rc3. Rhea County Community Center - Rc3 is a non-profit organization that is open to the community to come and workout in our gym and provides sports/camps of all kinds to our youth and surrounding areas to come in a develop in their level of athletics and character.
Q: Terra Running is excited to be part of your race this fall! How long has the race been going on?
A: The Funky Monkey is a night-time glow run. We have a 5k and a 1-mile road race. This will be our 15th year hosting this race.
Q: What is the course like?
A: The course is fast and flat going through downtown and through our swinging bridge park. We line the course with bright colorful lights and course marshals to help guide you in the dark.
Q: What does the race raise money for?
A: Our race raises money for our Strong Community Campaign. This campaign provides financial assistance for families and youth to be able to participate in all we offer.
Q: What do runners and walkers get for participating in the race?
A: When participating you will receive a 5k medal or a 1-mile ribbon. They will get a shirt and potentially win a door prize. Top three finishers in age groups will also receive another medal. During packet pick up racers will get a goody bag with Rc3 information and other items. Post race we have pizza and snacks.
Q: What is something unique about your race you would like people to know?
A: Our race takes place at 8pm where we will provide glow sticks, face paint, and glow lights throughout the course. We provide a fun family friendly environment.
Q: What was the idea behind the race?
A: Adding a fun community event that was different than anything else that was offered while promoting healthy lifestyles and family fun.
Q: When is packet pickup?
A: 5:00 pm - 7:45 pm October 2nd (race day) The Race starts at 8:00 pm.
Q: Anything else you'd like to share?
A: We would love to have everyone come out and have fun with us at this race. Please remember that this race is at night. Bring flashlights and wear your brightest and most neon-colored outfits as possible. Be ready to get funky and have fun!
